Even in the Internet age, Austin believes the old adage "it takes money to make money" still has great merit. While home-based and e-businesses certainly can be run with lower overhead than traditional businesses "there is no business advance without finance," says Austin. Kamau goes on to reveal more of his insights on the matter. "There has been an inseparable relationship between business and finance since the beginning of civilization. Business and finance go together like ice cream and cake, peanut butter and jelly, or love and marriage. You can have one without the other, but it is much more enjoyable to combine them together." "I was running a very profitable Internet business. I was outsourcing work to 9 people in my virtual team and still posting a great profit. At first I had problems getting credit because I once co-signed a loan for a friend who didn't meet the obligations of the loan. I was still able to eventually obtain financing with a little known microloan source. I needed the loan to ease my cash flow concerns for paying fees to my virtual team. Then I was stricken with cancer. After 4 surgeries and 9 weeks of chemo it seems like I am finally winning the battle. But my business took a dive after losing my best clients. But I developed an excellent repayment record with my microloan source and was able to borrow and survive in business despite my terrible battle with cancer."
